Local Food Policy Summit to Advance Iowa's Agricultural Goals
Ames, Iowa – December 6, 2024

The Iowa Food System Coalition (IFSC) invites stakeholders from across Iowa’s agricultural community to join the Local Food Policy Summit, a gathering for statewide food system partners, including state agencies, legislators, farmers and other organizations to share information about food system priorities leading up to the 2025 Iowa legislative session.

This gathering will take place on Wednesday, December 6th, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Quality Inn & Suites Ames Conference Center near the ISU Campus, located at 2601 East 13th Street, Ames, Iowa.

The summit will feature a meal comprised of Iowa-grown foods, with vegetarian and vegan options available. Following lunch, attendees will engage in conversations and presentations focused on expanding Iowa's food production and supporting sustainable economic development.

The Local Food Policy Summit is part of the Iowa Farmers Union's 109th Annual Convention, where partners and community members will come together to discuss strategies to continue growing Iowa's local food programs. This year's agenda will include a presentation from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) about the Choose Iowa programs, a presentation from Robin Bostrom, Business Specialist with the Iowa Economic Development Authority, about the Rural Innovation Grants Program, and a legislative panel.

Registration for the Local Food Policy Summit is available at: iowafoodsystemcoalition.org.

The Local Food Policy Summit is organized by the Iowa Food System Coalition's Local Food Policy Network Team, in partnership with the Iowa Farmers Union. The event is open to farmers, policymakers, state agencies, and all community members interested in supporting Iowa's local food economy.
