Eat Greater Des Moines, a partner in the Iowa Food System Coalition, joined in the fun at the Iowa Farmer's Union Day at the State Fair. With their innovative blender bike, EGDSM demonstrated the vibrant energy and commitment that IFSC members bring to building a stronger local and regional food system in Iowa.

Paul McCormick of EGDSM and co-chair of the IFSC Communication & Education Priority Team, engaged fairgoers by serving thousands of refreshing berry smoothies made from all local ingredients. The blender bike, powered by pedal energy, was a hit—showcasing how even the energy used to blend the smoothies was locally sourced, thanks to the effort of IFU staff and members.

Ingredients like fresh strawberries, frozen aronia and mulberries, kale, yogurt, milk, assorted jams, and honey were used to create these delicious smoothies. The demonstration not only highlighted the delicious possibilities of Iowa-grown produce, but also underscored the importance of sustainable, community-driven food systems.
